step by step

 step-by-step is a continuously evolving, self-redefining, autonomous drift. The choreography does everything it can to dance its way out of the conventional theatrical situation, its framing, and its expectations. Step by step, it distances itself from these conventions, developing, modulating, distorting, and eroding itself until it becomes almost unrecognizable, opening up broader spaces for perception and interpretation.

At its core, the performance explores the relationship to rhythm: a dance of departing from and returning to points of reference. It wanders along the edges of possibility, thriving on unpredictability, playfulness, and the flirtation with expectation.

The choreography never comes to a halt. Step by step, it insists on the uninterrupted continuity of dance—of remaining in motion.

The collaboration between Willany Leó Improvisation Dance Theatre and Imre Vass began in 2023 with the premiere of #chameleon no.3, a trio choreography presented at MU Theatre. In 2026, they return to this shared artistic inquiry, further developing and expanding the creative process set in motion by the original work.
